Gironde, Garonne and Dordogne

These three waterways are often grouped together to create a journey across many different parts of France’s Bordeaux region. We have offered a small number of these river cruises in the past, but now there are many more options and each river now has its own page. In fact, the Gironde is an estuary that leads from the Bay of Biscay before splitting into two routes; the Dordogne and the Garonne Rivers. These itineraries will be full of opportunities to taste the world class wines that are produced in this part of the world and visit some beautiful chateaux too.

Ganges

The Ganges is the holiest of all rivers, paying a vital role in the Hindu religion and directly affecting the lives of thousands of people that live along its banks. These culturally rich and vibrant destinations can open your eyes to the beauty of India and give you the chance to experience things that you never have before. Noble Caledonia is operating a Holy Ganges itinerary in November 2015 on board its ship Rajmahal. This includes visits to cities such as Kolkata and Varanasi, along with eight days of cruising this iconic river. And if the demand is right, there could soon be many more trips along the Ganges available.

Saar and Neckar

These two European rivers are seldom sailed but are both teeming with the romantic notions of breathtaking scenery and quaint towns. Both of them flow through Germany, with the Saar (famous for its picturesque loop that often features in photographs) also venturing into France. Noble Caledonia is offering a Four River Odyssey which takes in some of the sights along these rivers as well as those on the Moselle and Rhine. You will get to visit towns like Saarbrucken, the capital of the Saarland region, and Heidelberg, with its baroque Old Town and impressive castle.

Nile

The longest river in the world is also one of the most well-known and popular with travellers. Nile river cruises were once booming, with over 300 ships operating along the river, but numbers have reduced in recent years due to political disruption in Egypt. However, since the travel ban for UK holidaymakers was lifted in November 2013, confidence in visiting the region seems to be growing again. Operators such as Discover Egypt, Sanctuary Retreats and Noble Caledonia are now offering itineraries once more, with the latter providing trips between Aswan and Luxor aboard its luxury steam ship, Misr.

Po

Italy’s Po river flows from west to east across the north of the country and Uniworld are offering the chance to explore it and the surrounding area. The itinerary includes plenty of time on land, as well as that spent cruising the river. Part of the trip will involve spending a number of days in the fantastic floating city of Venice, whilst you will also see the sights in places such as Verona, Bologna, Florence and Polesella.
