Earlier this month, the latest addition of ‘Berlitz: River Cruising in Europe’ was released to the public. This widely trusted guide looks at over 300 different river ships currently operating within Europe and ranks them in terms of cuisine, accommodation, service and facilities. Not only does this save potential cruisers the job of flicking through multiple brochures to find the best operator to sail with, it also pinpoints the exact ships they should choose.

You may remember that, back in 2014, AmaWaterways’ ships managed to earn all of the top ten spots within the guide. Whilst this is an impressive achievement, it’s even more remarkable that they have been able to do it again this year. Yes, every ship mentioned in the top ten of the Berlitz guide is owned and operated by AmaWaterways. In addition, AmaPrima, AmaReina, AmaSerena, AmaSonata, AmaVida, AmaVerde, AmaVenita, AmaCerto, AmaBella, AmaLyra, AmaDante, AmaDolce and AmaCello were all given 4-star plus grades, the highest issued in the book.

Writer Douglas Ward put the line’s success down to its superior food options and onboard service. He stated that “AmaWaterways spends considerably more on high-quality food ingredients and wine and on hotel crew service training than any other river cruise company.” The line’s newest ships, AmaViola and AmaStella, were not reviewed this year due to the fact that they have only just made their debuts. However, if the success achieved by their fleet mates is anything to go by, we should expect to see their names in the next edition of the guide.

Another AmaWaterways ship that you won’t find in the Berlitz guide just yet is the brand new AmaKristina. This state-of-the-art vessel was launched at the end of April and is named after Kristin Karst, one of the line’s co-owners. It is built to the same specifications as AmaViola and AmaStella and that makes it a haven for multi-generational families who want to sail on Rhine River Cruises. The adjoining staterooms mean that they can stay in separate rooms but still be close to each other and the increased number of stylish twin balcony staterooms – offering both a French balcony and an outside area - will provide plenty of space.
