The second of Amadeus River Cruises’ silver class of vessels, Amadeus Silver II, launched back in 2015 to much anticipation. Promising all the modern innovation, elegant design and five-star service of her sister ships, Silver II offers guests all the luxury of the best hotels in Europe with the bonus of waking up in a different city every day.

Charli May was recently lucky enough to spend some time on board this beautiful ship as she sailed the Rhine from Cochem to Amsterdam. Though this was not her first experience of river cruising, she was still blown away by the spacious interiors, the phenomenally attentive staff and the well-planned cruise programme, which made for a comfortable and luxurious experience. Here’s an insight into her Rhine river cruise.

Accommodation

Amadeus Silver II is just as modern, sleek and elegant as her sister ships. Decorated in a classy combination of dark woods, pink tones and chrome accents, there is a luxury feeling on board while still managing to be very comfortable and homely.

A standout detail of the staterooms and suites is the incredible floor-to-ceiling windows. A true highlight of any river cruise is passing through the small towns and villages along the river bank and to be able to view these completely uninterrupted from the comfort of your cabin is breathtaking. Coupled with numerous amenities, including a minibar, gloss surfaces, a spacious en-suite with Rituals toiletries and air conditioning, the accommodation on board is a real haven.

It’s the little details and added extras throughout the vessel which really create this luxurious atmosphere. From the spacious walk-in wardrobes in all 84 staterooms, full-length windows and tinkling music in the Panorama Lounge to the well-placed awnings and sun loungers on the Sun Deck, every space has been used well.

Food, Glorious Food

There is never any danger of you going hungry whilst on board with Amadeus. With early-bird continental breakfast in the lounge followed by a buffet in the restaurant, a light lunch or a three-course sit-down option, afternoon tea, three-course dinner and a midnight snack available every single day, there’s no danger of missing a meal. However, it isn’t just the quantity of food on board that’s so outstanding – the quality is also something to celebrate.

Food is exceptionally well-presented and thought out at every meal and each course is delicious. With a choice of two starters, two soups, three mains and dessert for both lunch and dinner, you really are spoilt for choice. Wine is matched every evening to suit that night’s menu and the chefs on board can cater for any dietary requirements.

Dining next to the panoramic windows in the main restaurant whilst sailing through some of Europe’s most beautiful landscapes has to be one of the finest experiences.

Are You Being Served?

The real heroes of my cruising experience with Amadeus were the crew. Attentive, friendly, helpful and always professional, the staff on board really are to be commended. Working long hours to ensure the ship looked immaculate, food was prepared and served on time and that your glass was never empty, they always had a smile on their face and never complained.

Taking the time to learn your name and remember your food and drink preferences gave a really personal touch which enhanced the whole experience. Each member of staff went out of their way to accommodate each passenger, to ensure they had the best time on board and were even willing to dress up and perform comedy skits and songs in the name of entertainment on our last night.

My short experience on board really only touched the surface of this beautiful vessel and the sights and destinations that are all part of an Amadeus river cruise. With friendly and attentive staff available 24 hours a day and all excursions, entertainment and afternoon socials completely optional, everything is designed for you to enjoy your holiday as you see fit.
