Dig Up Some History In 2020 With A-Rosa

1st October 2019

Themed river cruises are a great way to combine a well-deserved holiday with one of your biggest passions. In recent years, operators have included itineraries focussing on everything from golf and beer to classical music and Jewish heritage. And now, A-Rosa has announced a series of archaeology themed river cruises throughout Europe in 2020.

Sailing along the Rhone, Rhine and Danube Rivers, these trips have been carefully crafted in partnership with Andante Travels and will all feature a historical lecturer who will guide the group and host onboard presentations. Shore excursions will focus on ancient ruins, interesting museums and places of interest that have shaped these regions in the past.

Aquincum

For example, during a stop in Strasbourg, guests will travel to Mainz to see the cathedral’s beautiful stained glass windows designed by Marc Chagall. A Rhone River cruise will take you to the Grotte Chauvet 2, a replica cave in the Ardèche Gorge which showcases 36,000-year-old cave art, whilst activities along the Danube include visits to ancient Roman capitals Carnuntum and Aquincum.

These archaeology themed river cruises will take place on board A-Rosa Stella (Rhone), A-Rosa Donna (Danube) and A-Rosa Aqua (Rhine) and are available now.

Sing For Your Sailing

Female Guitarist

In more A-Rosa news, the cruise line has announced a competition to help find new musical entertainment for the ship’s lounges. It’s encouraging singer-songwriters to register by 2nd December 2019 for the chance to perform on board in a ‘battle of the bands’ situation. Semi-finalists, finalists and the eventual winners will be chosen by a mixture of guest scores and a final decision by the expert judging panel.

60 will be whittled down to 10 and then four, before a winner is given the opportunity to perform live on the ships regularly in 2021 and beyond. Not only will entrants get the chance to enjoy a seven-night sailing along one of Europe’s most popular rivers, but semi-finalists will also receive €2,500 in prize money and the ‘audience winner’ will bag a cool €5,000.

If you don’t want to be involved in the competition but like the idea of helping A-Rosa choose a winner, you could well be playing the role of judge during your 2020 river cruise.
