New Double Width Ship Heads Up Exciting Announcements For AmaWaterways

30th May 2017

With the launch of latest ship AmaKristina, it’s been an exciting period for AmaWaterways recently. However, the biggest cause for commotion relates to what’s to come in the future rather than what’s happening now. In a first for the cruise line, President Rudi Schreiner has announced that AmaWaterways is building an innovative double-width vessel for 2019.

AmaMagna

To be called AmaMagna, the proposed ship will be twice as wide as those currently sailing the rivers of Europe and will offer Danube river cruises. However, this is not a move to increase capacities by trying to cram twice as many staterooms on board. Instead, most of the extra room will be used to ensure guests have much more space in which to relax, whether that be in the public areas or in their own private suite. With many of the standard cabins measuring 300 square feet and the addition of extra-large suites too, comfort will be in abundance.

Elsewhere, the extra width will allow space for a bigger fitness area, which will be able to offer small group classes; an alfresco dining concept, which will be encased in glass for when the weather doesn’t play ball; and a large sundeck complete with heated swimming pool, whirlpool and sky bar. AmaMagna will also carry Zodiacs and canoes, like many expedition ships do, so that guests can explore the destinations they visit from the water as well as on land.

New Ships, New Itineraries, New Horizons

More exciting news from AmaWaterways comes with the launch of their 2018 brochure. We learnt more about another new ship, AmaLea, which is set to arrive next year, and were introduced to a number of new itineraries in Europe, Africa and Asia.

AmaLea will be the sister ship to AmaKatrina, AmaViola and AmaStella, featuring the connected family rooms which have been a big hit on these recent vessels. She will also have room for a swim-up bar and the Chef’s Table restaurant, which offers the chance to try a delicious 12-course tasting menu created by the award-winning Primus Perchtold. One new feature will be the addition of a nightly cocktail hour. ‘Sip and Sail’ will give guests the chance to relax with the drink(s) of their choice every day for free. Sailing on the Danube, AmaLea will have space for a maximum of 154 passengers.

Chobe River Cruise

In regards to the itineraries, there will be more than fifty different wine-themed cruises for you to embark on from 2018, including sailings on the Seine, Rhine and Douro. New sailings include ‘Magical Christmas Markets’ on the Rhine, ‘Charms of the Mekong’ through Vietnam and Cambodia, and ‘Wildlife and the Falls’, which will combine a Chobe River cruise with land stays in Johannesburg, Victoria Falls and the Kruger National Park.

If you would like the chance to sail onboard AmaLea in 2018 or the groundbreaking AmaMagna in 2019, our river cruise team can help you find the perfect itinerary. Give us a call now to book your AmaWaterways river cruise.
