Vltava

The Vltava may not be as well-known as some of the other rivers in Europe, but it is the national river of the Czech Republic, flowing right through the centre of the beautiful city of Prague. It travels for roughly 270 miles, from close to the German border until it meets up with the Elbe at the town of Melnik. Both its Czech name and German name (Moldau) are thought to have derived from words which mean 'wild water'.

The Czech capital will play a big part during your Vltava River cruise and is likely to be its starting or finishing point, or sometimes even both. Also, these itineraries often include journeys along the Elbe or Danube River.

There are a total of 18 bridges that cross the Vltava in Prague, but there is so much to see away from the river too. There's the 9th century castle to explore, the Old Town to wander through, plenty of Jewish heritage to discover and you cannot leave the city without admiring its famous astronomical clock.
